As a child of Indian origin, and one who currently resides in Toronto (Tkaronto) Canada, the story of (British) colonialism remains close to my heart. Colonialism starved the Indian subcontinent, inducing famine on famine on her people. Our lands were used to fuel the destructive British Empire and her economy, which continued its destruction on Turtle Island. Genocide, residential schools and poor land management destroyed (and continue to harm) Indigenous tribes and culture. As the founder of By Bhumika Inc, I'm keenly aware of my place in this web; as a born Canadian, I am still a settler, and I must continually focus on what it means to decolonize and naturalize my impact on the earth. This is important in India, Canada, and around the world. Using Palestinian Olive Oil is the least we can do to ensure that our profit, and your dollars, are used as cleanly as possible in a capitalist system.
